Examples of our successful clients…………….

Dawn McDonald had been unemployed for over a year when she called in on the off-chance at the TEN Jobsearch Advice Shop in Fowler St. South Shields to see what might be available to help her find work. After discussing her situation with a TEN Personal Jobsearch Advisor and finding out what help is available at TEN, Dawn decided to register with TEN for job search help. Tina, a Personal Jobsearch Advisor working in our Fowler St.shop, assisted Dawn in preparing a CV, helped look for suitable jobs and even arranged an interview for her.
Unfortunately, Dawn was unsuccessful in her first interview, but she persisted in her search for a job with the support of her Advisor. On one of her visits to TEN, she was accompanied by her partner, Tamriss Black who had also been unemployed for over a year. Tamriss also registered for job search support as a client with TEN.

Both Dawn and Tamriss were later successful in being invited for interviews as Production Operatives at Findus UK in Longbenton and TEN helped with the costs of attending both the interviews and subsequent medical examinations. They were both were successful in gaining jobs with the Company and TEN, through South Tyneside Councils Ticket 2 Work scheme, helped further by providing their daily travel costs to work for the first 2 months of employment. Dawn  said: “ without TEN’s help we would not have got the interviews, been able to afford to go and therefore subsequently offered the jobs – we think the Ticket 2 Work scheme is brilliant!”

Lee Pollard is thirty six year old and had been on one benefit or another, for fourteen years, a single parent with a hearing disability.  As his child grew a little bit older, Lee decided he would make a positive effort to find a job and his first stop was TEN’s Jobsearch Advice Shop at the Viking Centre in Jarrow. Lee registered with TEN and underwent an initial assessment with a Personal Jobsearch Advisor and together they developed an Action Plan for Lee’s return to work. After identifying the area of work that Lee wanted to pursue, his Personal Jobsearch Advisor referred Lee to one of our partnership agencies who were able to provide the training he needed. Again, with the help of his Lee Personal Jobsearch Advisor Lee applied for, and was successful in receiving, a grant from TEN to cover the cost of the asbestos stripping course Lee wanted to undertake.

Subsequently, Lee completed the course and became a qualified Asbestos Stripping Operative. Further TEN support provided the funding for his medical and the purchase of the necessary equipment, enabling him to start a new job. By coincidence, his new employer is himself a previous TEN client who had received help from TEN and now owns his own successful asbestos stripping business, employing several local men.
